The ETERNUS SN200 series Fibre Channel switches helps you make the most of ETERNUS storage system capability, delivering high reliability, high flexibility and high performance to Storage Area Networks (SAN). There are currently models 430 and 480 in the SN200 serie.
ETERNUS SN200 model 210
Full Fabric Option provides improved scalability for models 220 and 230 (*Note 1, *Note 2). As standard, models 220 and 230 provide only one-to-one inter-switch connection. This means there is a limitation to the number of switches configurable in a fabric. By applying Full Fabric Option to models 220 and 230, three or more switches can be inter-connected. This facilitates the creation of larger SANs and the consolidation of separate SANs
ETERNUS SN200 model 240
With model 430, this feature combines maximum of four paths into one logical path for inter-switch connection, and provides up to 8 Gbit/sec on that logical path. With model 480, this feature combines maximum of eight paths into one logical path for inter-switch connection, and provides up to 32 Gbit/sec on that logical path. When two to eight adjacent paths are used to connect two switches, the switches automatically group the paths into a single logical path, or "trunk". ISL Trunking provides load balancing over paths between switches. If paths are not grouped into a trunk, workload can not be balanced. In the upper figure, one path is congested (with data1 and data5), but there is no congestion on the other paths. If workload is not shared in such a case as this, the capability cannot be used to its maximum. ISL Trunking provides enhanced performance by significantly reducing traffic congestion.
*Note 1: With models 240 (EOL) and 480, all ports can be used for inter-switch connection, so this option is not necessary. *Note 2: This option is also available with model 210 (EOL). As standard (without this option), model 210 only provides one port for inter-switch connection.
